Duplex Closed-Loop Oil-Sealed Liquid Ring Priming Systems
Duplex priming systems using closed-loop, oil-sealed liquid ring vacuum pumps are a Q-VAC innovation that combines many of the best features from oil-lubricated rotary vane systems and water-sealed liquid ring vacuum systems. By utilizing a small oil reservoir, multi-stage discharge air filtration, and an air-cooled heat exchanger in a closed loop arrangement, the vacuum pump is able to run continuously without ever needing water.
Due to the lower vapor pressure of oil in comparison to water, the vacuum pump can be run at significantly higher temperatures without affecting performance or durability. This reduces the size and cost of the heat exchanger that is needed and helps reduce water vapor from condensing inside the pump. Additionally, because oil is used as a seal fluid, and not a lubricant, the oil change interval is not critical which results in lower maintenance.
Since two vacuum pumps operate together during initial priming, smaller vacuum pumps can be selected without sacrificing performance. However, to maximize efficiency after the initial prime, only one vacuum pump runs during normal operation to restore system vacuum. Not only does this reduce power consumption and operating costs, it also reduces the runtime on each vacuum pump to extend maintenance intervals and maximize life. Finally, to ensure that neither vacuum pump becomes damaged due to non-use, the controls are designed to operate each vacuum pump in a lead-lag fashion and automatically alternate duty to balance the run hours.
Q-VAC’s series of closed-loop, oil-sealed liquid ring vacuum pump priming systems are available in sizes from 1.5 HP and larger. PLC controls are standard to provide increased safety, enhanced features, and the most reliable operation. AutoPurge is optional.
